Stephenson Engineering

We were asked to look at a site for Stephenson Engineering at their Gibfield Works up near Leigh in Lancashire. The site is on low lying ground and over a period of time much of their yard has broken up due to the instability of the damp ground. They were looking to replace this as well as building a new shed and further hard-standing.

Stephenson’s main contractor prepared the site. We laid base and binder courses then Hardipave Heavy Duty Grouted Macadam surface course, suitable for HGV and heavy fork lift traffic. The main reason for using these materials in these slightly unstable ground conditions is that, although extremely durable, they retain a degree of flexibility and so do not need to be jointed. This is an extremely heavy duty specification and is an ideal alternative to concrete.
